Jazz Manouche in Paris - Best info sources?

Postby Ando » Tue Mar 04, 2008 3:57 pm

Hi everyone, I'm going to be in Paris in May and of course will make the pilgrimage to the Chope, R.F. Charle, and a few other places. Maybe a quick Sunday outing down to Samois for a look.

I'd like to keep tabs on manouche gigs in Paris. Other than this forum (which is great), are there other sources, perhaps in French, that I should be consulting? I know about Marc Masselin's page, but it's static and out of date. I'd love to know, for example, whether Les Yeux Noirs (on rue Mouffetard) still exists, and if Angelo still plays in the tsigane style there. I'd also like to know if Serge Camps is still hanging out around Place Vosges.

Any tips?

Hi Ando,
Check here:

The regulars and jams:

L'ensemble Zaiti (Adrien Moignard, Mathieu Chatelain) play almost every monday night at "La taverne de Cluny" they will blow your mind!!

While you're there pick up a LYLO, a small leaflet that lists all cultural events weekly, including of course jazz manouche.

Have a great time!!

Harry and Daniel,

thanks for the replies, belatedly. It turns out that my boss wanted me to work more than play, so I regret not being able to see anything at all. :-(

Well, there was a fellow in front of L'entropot (14th, near Pernety) producing some nice pompe for his friends -- I stopped for a listen.

Next time, next time ...
