Sadly, Danish world famous doble bass player, Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen, otherwise known as "NHØP" passed away yeaterday at age 58.

He played and recorded with Bireli Lagrene, Didier Lockwood, Joe Pass, Stephane Grappelli, Svend Asmussen, Boulou Ferre, Oscar Peterson, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins and Stuff Smith among others...

Phenomanal talent lost at too young an age, he has however left his mark and will always be remembered as great.

Very sorry to hear of his passing at such a young age. Though, yes, good for him he certainly left his mark. Always enjoyed his bass playing and his unique soloing capability. Especially when he'd play Donna Lee. I have him doing a version with Bireli. I was fortunate to see Niels perform at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield with the Oscar Peterson Trio in the late 70s.

He was a legend in his own time.
