Pierre Michelot

World class jazz bassist died at 77. Played regularly with Django at Club St Germain and on his last recording sessions in 1953. He always claimed the melancholy of Django's playing at these sessions presaged his death shortly afterwards. He said everytime he (Michelot) subsequently played them, they sent a shiver down his spine; particularly "Nuages" which Michelot felt was Django's best version.

He also performed with, amongst others, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Young, Bud Powell, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon and Jacques Loussier.
