This was taken from a short obituary I saw in 'The Times' yesterday and may be of interest to some of you. I tried to scan and post the whole thing but failed miserably, however here are the salient points:

"Peerie" (Scottish for small) Willie Johnson. Born 10/12/20. Died, 22/5/07.

"[He] was one of the most influential Scottish folk musicians. Born in 1920 on Yell, the Shetlands' second largest island"

"Influenced by the Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt he introduced such wider influences into the traditional fiddle-based music of the Shetlands"

I heard about that. It's too bad. I have a couple recordings of him from a concert that Aly Bain organized. He was really something special, and apparently, was still playing up until his death.
