Good beginning swing violin books?

Postby polkat » Fri Aug 15, 2008 10:26 pm

For an early intermediate violinist with basic reading and playing skills and some limited improvisation experience, what are some good method books for swing jazz? I've gone through the Jazz Fiddle Wizard book, but it concentrates primarily on the be bop scale, which seems limiting to me. Any ideas? Thanks!

Kliphuis book/DVD?

Postby polkat » Sun Dec 28, 2008 3:39 am

A few months ago I asked about good swing jazz violin books, and DennisC responded that I should wait until December for the Kliphuis Grappelli book/CD which would offer 6 hours of instruction.

I see now that there is a Mel Bay book in the stores by Tim, with a sort of photo/drawing of Stephane on the cover, but it contains only 1 CD. Is this the book mentioned? And if not, is this one any good? Thanks!
