Stephane's string choice?

Postby polkat » Sun Jan 04, 2009 6:11 am

I am quite courious about Stephane's string choices in the later years. I know he didn't use Dominants because of the silk colors, and it never sounded like steel strings. Someone told me that he wouldn't use gut because of thier slower response... however, he can be seen checking the tuning of the G and D strings just immediately before playing on several videos. The closest I have come to identifying the silk colors is Pirastro Gold. So could he have used gut?

Stephane's Strings once more...

This is basically just a couriosity for me. After a long study of videos and images, it appears in his later life he used Pirastro Eudoxa's on the G and D, a Thomastik medium Precision A, and a Pirastro metal E.

Anyone disagree?
