Who to listen to?

Postby polkat » Sat May 15, 2010 8:16 am

I've been (trying to anyway) playing swing jazz and gypsy jazz for a few years now. I've been listening to Stephane's work with Django and others of course, and some of Tim Kliphaus, but I'm not really sure what other violin players to listen to. Swing/gypsy players who are popular now. Who can advise me here? Thanks!

As Maca says but also check out Martin Wiess, Chris Garrick and a more swng than gypsy player, Mark O'Connor and his Hot Swing Trio featuring Frank Vignola.

I'm nowhere near popular but I can help. PM me I have some Grappelli transcriptions for you if you're interested. I'm one of the regular violinplayers of the Rosenberg Trio:

Thx guys! Are any of you coming to Samois this weekend? I'll be playing two songs or so in the Rosenberg Trio Set (Bireli and James Carter will also do guest spots). Mayby we'll see each other there!

Best Wishes,
Christiaan
