Buying a guitar in Paris or Samois

Postby PeterK » Wed May 23, 2007 9:05 pm

Going to Samois in June and thinking about buying a semi-decent guitar instead of bringing along the one I have. Impossible to find these where I live anyway. What's your take on getting a mid-level guitar at Samois, around ?1000 or am I better off looking in Paris? If I sell my first-born and my liver, I could get a hand-made on the island, I guess...

Cheers

For less than 1000 your options are:
Gitanes, asian Dell arte, some Gallatos, Pattenote, Dupont Nomade.
Or try to get a good deal on a used guitar...I've heard great things about the Manouche.
I believe all the guitars at the island (Dupont, Ajl, etc) are higher than that, and it's doubtful that you could buy one off another player, but you can try and maybe make an agreement with someone beforehand...

This store is a just outside Paris:

Inside Paris you can look around and maybe find something, there are lots of Pattenotes around...some are great and you can have one for far less than 1000.

Other than that you are better off just buying one from the internet look around these:

www.gypsyguitars.com
and check the classifieds too.
Good luck!!!

Trouble is, now I'm getting into a feeding frenzy! Breathe, breathe...
