Headway sk60 Vs AER Compact 60

Postby Ricardo » Wed Sep 24, 2008 9:29 am

Has anyone tried a Headway SK60 acoustic amp? I'm toying with getting one of those or a second hand AER. Cheers.

Headway is a great amp but make certain you get the new model. I did some R&D for them and suggested they have an asignable effects option between the channels and a better speaker. The new model addresses these issues.
I use a 120 Headway as I like the better headroom. The AER is great but does colour the sound more than the Headway. the Headway EQ is far better also.
Check out the PJB acoustic CUB also. Single channel and no reverb but a great sound for not a lot of money.

That's just showing off Cabo - however your fantastic playing deserves only the finest amplification known to man.I assume the name 'David' which is a stupid name for an inanimate object ,was given to this amp because of it's ability to fell giants? Gadjo - thanks for that -In your pro opinion, given a budget of £400, would you go for a new Headway or used Aer? I'm obviously looking for pure acoustic tone. Cheers.

 gosh! Thank you Ricardo, your flattering comments are only slightly tainted by the fact you're not a female.
I think the Shirtlifters go out at approx.£649, my aer is vaguely knackered (9 years old), so I'm getting the Shirty at £400 with gigbag. Go on, treat yerself, sell a child or put the missus out on the game. :D

So you are px ing the aer and getting the shirty for £400 on top?, or are you saying you can get the Schertler for £400 anyway - if so where from?

Yes, I am. Although the volume isn't as loud full up, as with the aer, I fixed this by using a pre-amp which boosts it considerably. The thing that swayed me was the sound and tone of the guitar through it. Like it was mic-ed up, or the closest thing. I had both amps running at the same time and switched from one to the other. The aer seemed really boxy and processed, whilst the shirtlifter zinged and came to life. It makes me LIKE playing through the amp.

Ricardo, I got the amp from Langdons in Boscombe , Dorset. But I did get matesrates cuz the owner's an old friend.

+1 on the Schertler. I run a bigtone/Baggs pre/David and couldn't be happier.

I've got a guitar on the way and I've just demanded a Schertler transducer/mic combi to be fitted forthwith. This should produce even sexier results. Hoorah for sexy results!

Sorry to be slightly off-message on this incredibly interesting thread but I was just wondering whether anyone knew what sort of amp Django used?
