High Quality Rare Django Steph and Joseph Photos

In this post I will try to compile some of the rarest and high quality uncommon photos of Django and C:o. They're not among the rarest, though. Not by far. And if it has a watermark, e.g DJANGOSTATION.COM it won't make the list. Also, I prefer the images unaltered. That is, no crops. If you want more, speak to Roger. He's the holy grail of Django Reinhardt memorabilia. Definately in the top 5 including Alain Antonietto. I had a dream about him last night. He's known as TeddyDupont on these forums. (Derived from the band he's in.)

I have also updated my previous posts (Django in 1953 and Rare Django Photos with more photo alternatives and some photos from some sessions that I missed.

Django in the US with Sonia Dimitrivich, 1946, late 1946, early 1947 or September 1945 in Paris. Yeah. One source states that. It isn't impossible.

This image is seen on the plaque at Django's house and on his gravestone. I've never seen the full image in detail.

Studio Harcourt, 1944. Only four issued recordings by Django from this year. I guess he was busy tending to the newly-born Babik. Unissued remains the 1944 Bal Tabarin live sessions.

My internet connections keeps cutting out so I have not been able to comment on Richieboy's photos. There are now too many so if you want info on any particular ones Richie, send me a private post and I tell you what I know.

The graphic artists are always cropping, reshaping and retouching photos that appear in books, magazines, newspapers or on CD/LP/EP covers to meet some dubious artistic criteria. It drives me nuts! Many photos are bad quality because the only copies we can now find are from old newspapers/magazines where the print quality is poor. I recently managed to get hold of a copy of "Jazz Hot" from 1938 which has those two very rare photos that appear on the front of Fremeaux Vol. 6 and still the quality is crap.

Here is an example of a photo that I have only ever seen in one publication and the print quality of that publication is dire. The original has probably long since been lost...........or perhaps not.

......and here is one of Django and Hubert Fol climbing up the steps out of Club St Germain des Pres in 1951 exactly as it appeared in a newspaper. I think the publishers should have been severely bitch-slapped.

It was taken at the same time as this one with the English composer Michael Carr. Some souces say they were taken in 1939 when the Quintette toured the UK and the suits look much more thirties than late forties to me.

I was poking fun of Nevers' ability to make errors of judgment.

That Michael Carr photo is another example of photos that were edited. Poor Carr was edited out in some copies.
