Django Stardust recording.

Post by pubylakeg »

Hello Folks,
Many years ago I owned a vinyl LP by Stephane Grappelli and Django titled "A Swinging Affair" I believe it may have been Decca recordings. It had a version of Stardust on it which featured a tenor sax but after much searching I cant find a recording of that particular version anywhere. It's definitely not the famous version featuring Coleman Hawkins. Could anybody suggest which date/line up the version could have been or better still, know of any CD which might feature it.
Thanks & Best Wishes.

Django only recorded two versions of "Stardust" and this is the other one where he just accompanies Bill Coleman and Garnet Clark from 1935:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQfS013U-rA.

I have the LP you mentioned which has tracks of Django and Stephane recorded both together and separately. The version of "Stardust" on it is by Stephane Grappelli and his Quintet recorded in London in 1942. No Django I'm afraid.

Thanks very much for the info. Now I've managed to locate a copy, no Django but a lovely version anyway.
Haven't heard it for decades .
