Johnny by Francois Lamarque

This is a great song recorded by Jean Pierre Dubanton and Laudat on their last CD. Anyone know who made it famous??
Its composition is attributed to the great chanson composer Francois larmarque who also wrote one of my all time faves "A Paris" performed by Yves Montand with superb Djangoesque playing by Henri Crolla.

Curiously "Johnny" has exactly the same tune as the Sinti song "Men a Devla" recorded by Hans 'che weiss.
I wonder if this is another example of 'popular' composers 'borrowing' from the gypsies ala "Those were the days" and "Feelings" etc???
Any ideas??

Hi Stu,

Very often the music of this song is attributed to Les Paul.

As far as I know, Francis Lemarque made only french lyrics to this song that was sung by himself and also by Edith Piaf.

Best regards
