Gypsy Jazz was a phrase first believed to have been coined by the UK guitarist and author Ian Cruickshank.

It is the general term used to describe a style of music that derived from guitarist Django Reinhardt.

Django first fused the American Jazz of Louis Armstrong with the Gypsy technique and style of playing in the 1930's.

Not to be confused with Gypsy Music which is generally understood to be music of the European travelling Gypsy Tribes.

Gypsy Jazz is usually played on the Selmer Maccaferri style of guitar, violin. It also encompasses the accordion and cymbalom.
