"The Genius that was Django Reinhardt"

The Genius that was Django Reinhardt
Ted Cherrett started collecting cuttings and snippets from music magazines on Django Reinhardt in the mid thirties when he first heard some recordings of this amazing guitarist. Many people thought that the recordings were speeded up to account for the incredible speed of playing. It was not until that the word was out that Django was for real did it hit home that we had a genius on our hands.
This book covers those early days when the music press started to pick up on the Django phenomenon. Throughout it's pages you will find the thoughts of the day. The many reactions to Django's recordings and reports from the concerts he performed all over the world. Next the reactions to his disappearance during the war years, including the false declaration of his death at the hands of the Nazis onto his American concerts and recordings. This book is a treasure to read, you can drop in and out at will and never tire of the new information you will find here.

Ted Cherrett was lucky enough to have seen the Quintet play 3 times in London, a man of many talents he started collecting these cuttings from the word go. It was not until he began to compile them into some order, just a few years ago, did he realise that many others would like to share this unique insight into that mysterious Gypsy, Django Reinhardt. He was not wrong.

Thankfully for us he has assembled this wonderful and lasting document, information that would otherwise have been lost forever.
