From the liner notes by Daniel Nevers
The darling of top French accordionists during the latter half of the 1920s (see Volume 1 - FA 301), by the 1934-35 period covered here, Django Reinhardt had become an accompanist of a totally different nature. Following the lead of Jean Sablon, numerous were the popular singers now calling upon his services, first among them Germaine Sablon, Jean's sister; who often used the jazz backing of the Michel Warlop orchestra. During the course of our Volume 2, we shall also come across many more. After 1935, opportunities to accompany vocalists would become rarer; however; since Diango and some of his principal cohorts were by then aimost totally absorbed by the wonderiul jazz adventure set in motion by the Quintet of the Hot Club of France. Even in the present volume, tucked away among the cooing of singers such as Leon Monosson and Le Petit Mirsha, we hear the historic Quintet's maiden efforts, that new, original jazz sound that captivated even the Americans.
