Re: All The Things You Are

The key a tune is played in can have an effect on how difficult it is to play. We all know that even if some say we should know all keys equally. Jerome Kern wrote the tune in Ab, so that's how we do it, even though it would probably be easier in another key. Probably a singers key.

Re: Who is the fiddler?

I've been a fan of, and playing the music for years. I'm just new to some of the players. Your link to the leaflet doesn't work!

Re: Who is the fiddler?

Yes, I've since learned that it is indeed Florin, and he has become my favorite fiddler!

Who is the fiddler?

I'm still learning who the recent gypsy jazz masters are. There is a U-Tube video on the web called the "Django Reinhardt Tribute" - Swing Gitan, with Angelo Debarre and Birelli Lagrene. I'm not sure which one the fiddler is...but he's great! One of the best I've heard. Who is he? Thanks!

Website lessons?

Hi all, I've been a forum member for some time now, and have gotten some good advice here. I live in a rural area in the US where we don't have violin teachers, let alone jazz violin teachers, and as a result I'm basically self taught. I've been searching the web for free jazz violin lessons, and ac...

"So long you fool" chords?

This is a song Sophie Milman sings that has a nice, kinda dark swing sound. Does anyone know the chords?

Pretty Baby (old Dean Martin song)

Has anyone recorded Pretty Baby as a swing or gypsy swing tune? And if so, does anyone have a lead sheet or the chords? Thanks!

Thanks! Yes, I have the recording (actually translates to "You and Me"). What I'm looking for is a lead sheet. Anyone?

Django's violin playing?

In the DVD "Stephane Grappelli, a life in jazz" the first time we see the caravan referenced, we hear Django playing a slow tune on the violin in the background (apparently before his injury). My question: what tune is he playing? I've heard it several times, but can find no refernce to th...

Getting into third position!

I've been studying swing and gypsy jazz for a few years now (since I started violin seriously). I read music okay, and have reached what I'll call early intermediate level. Yet I still play about 90% in first position, only going to third position to reach high notes on the E string. I seem to have ...
