Miller pickup needs repair

I have a Miller ST51 type that is playing up. The volume knob just makes a crunchy noise with no noise coming from the pickup. In other words, it's broken. Do you think I can just take this to any decent repair person or would a specialist have to look at it? Any suggestions welcome. I'm in the UK

Good choice Teddy, I'd agree with that. Others on my list: Minor Swing 1937 Something from Django's electric period, maybe Nuages from the 1953 Norman Granz session.
