Roger Chaput

Post by Teddy Dupont »

I am writing a piece on Roger Chaput but I can find very little about him after he recorded the "Tonton Guitare" LP's in 1965. Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Teddy,

sorry for not responding. I searched my record collection and archive but found less than nothing about Roger Chaput since he recorded his Tonton Guitare records (only a re-edition of the records with some pics of Roger, but I think you know this ones).

Best,

Thanks for trying Barry. What about Challain Ferret? Do you know when he died so I can finish that one? Early 90's I think.

Sorry, Teddy - no idea! Perhaps it would be a good idea to ask his son Paul "Challain" Ferret.

Roger Chaput - guitar method

Post by Gypsyjazzer »

Hi,

One thing that Roger Chaput did produce was a guitar method book called "Hot - Guitar" - Cours de Guitare de Jazz. I believe it was published around, or shortly after the time he was playing with the QHCF, and there was a copy for sale on ebay about two years ago.

I bid up to $50 or so, but I think it went for around $100.

It goes without saying it would have been really interesting to see what chord shapes etc., he was using, and perhaps to have made it available to others as a downloadable e-book.

I've attached scans of the front cover and an inside page for info.

Naturally, if anyone knows where we might see a copy, then please get in touch.

Chaput was a guitar teacher amongst other things for a while. I think you would find he used pretty much standard chord shapes as did the rest of the HCQ rhythm players.

It certainly all sounds fairly standard on this piece by Chaput:-

It looks like the files I thought I'd attached previously didn't transfer - hopefully they have this time.
