Samois 2011 - Gypsy Jazz?

Post by weetmans »

Having visited Samois for the last 6 years, this year I found myself wondering if I had come to the wrong festival. Where was the Gypsy Jazz on the Festival program? I am no stickler for tradition, but I do feel that in a festival which bears Django's name, the booked artistes should include, if not a majority, at least a 50% portion of Gypsy Jazz. a lot of the acts were very entertaining, but this year was more like WOMAD than Samois.

Next year I think I'll save on the price of a Festival ticket, and just hang around the camp sites and bars.

That's precisely what we did this year. We went down to see George Benson and Ashavai Coen, that's it.
Nice to soak up the atmosphere and catchup with the regulars but didn't miss it.

Last year was good for GJ on the stage and suspect next year may be the same.
